On a day when nobody was sure what the weather or the result would be, the first competition round for the Knighton and Clarendon Park Conservative Club Golf Society 2024 took place at Humberstone Heights on Sunday 26 May.

After much speculation and intrigue along with some quite reasonable odds (as it turned out), 12 intrepid players turned up at the first tee as the heavens opened!

However, soon after, the skies cleared, and the day turned into a much more pleasant day than forecast.

As the round progressed, the players navigated a fairly unforgiving course with varying degrees of success, overseen by the match day referee, Alex Wilson, who was there to ensure everyone got back to the clubhouse intact and fair play was seen to be upheld. Thank you, Alex!

Reconvening back at the club, the day’s events were discussed and dissected along with some food and a few drinks before the results were announced.

The odds didn’t lie in the end and favourite Richard topped the score board!

It was a close run thing for the runners up position, but after a countback on the last 9 holes Hadyn nicked the Silver Medal from Chris who took Bronze. Mick may have come twelfth but still managed to pick up a prize of a Footjoy glove.

    The Winners!

After a long day, the winners drifted off with their prizes and medals, while the rest of the field, went home to think on what could or should have been, with a fair few looking to book an appointment with their local chiropractor, or golf professional!

Thanks to everyone who took part on the day, the society only has a future if you continue to support it.

Finally, the Society would like to thank Richard for organising the competition, Nick for donating and presenting the prizes, Chris for organizing the food, and Andy for organising the WhatsApp group.

Keep looking for updates and news on the forum in the future.
