KeymasterHappy New Year everyone!
I hope you all had a wonderful festive season and a very enjoyable Christmas Day and New Year celebrations. It’s gone very quickly as usual.
We were certainly busy at the club during December with over 20 events held and I would like to thank you all for making them all so successful.
However, we are now in 2026, with lots to look forward to at the club during the coming year.
1) What’s On – January
We’ve already had our first entertainment of the new year, last Friday afternoon, The Al Sansome Blues Band.
Unfortunately, drummer Clive Williams was ill over Christmas and we wish him a speedy recovery. Nick Murphy deputised for him.
Al and the band are here every Friday 2pm – 4pm.
Every Thursday Lunchtime 1230pm – 230pm
“The Jazz Crew” return for a weekly helping of easy listening jazz.
Tuesday 6th January 8pm
“Kenny Wilson” starts his second year at the club and is now very well established here.
Special guests this month are from the “Riverside Collective” .
Tuesday 13th January 8pm
The monthly Quiz with question master Andy Humpherson.
Tuesday 20th January 8pm
Vinyl Night with Derek The “Djook”. This month’s theme: Fashion.
No experience required, if you have some vinyl and want to be a DJ for 20 minutes come on down – Derek will lend a guiding hand!
Thursday 22nd December 8pm
Monthly Jazz evening with the return of favourites “Corner Pocket” on stage.
Complimentary cheese and biscuits and pork pie as usual.
(Please note; The jazz night is one week earlier than usual to avoid clashing with a big jazz event in Leicester the following Thursday)
Saturday 24th January 8pm
First Saturday night gig of the year is the very popular local band “Roadrunner”
2) Fantasy Football League
The December Manager of The Month results are out and the winner is one of my sons, Alex Copley-Jones (aka Mumbles) who has scooped the prize. He’ll no doubt be in smug mode over the next couple of weeks!
Well done Alex, your prize of three pints awaits. Please see attached poster for the top half of the table. As we are halfway through the season, I’ll ask George for the full league standings and publish these next week.
3) 140 Year Anniversary 1886 – 2026
2026 marks 140 years since the club was founded. To celebrate this milestone the club will be arranging a series of events over the year starting in February.
Please watch out for posters and emails as we are looking to put on an event most months during 2026. Organising and managing these events will be committee members Jude Colver and Karen Mallard.
Many thanks
Sharon
