    Hi everybody

I hope everybody has had a good start to the year. January is certainly rushing by and I’ve got a few updates to communicate to you:

    1) What’s On – Next Seven Days

    Tuesday 20th January 8pm – Vinyl Night

First vinyl night of the year with Derek and this month’s theme is “Fashion”. I have copied and pasted Derek’s recent post on Facebook which provides all the details.

    Thursday 22nd January 8pm – Jazz Night

“Corner Pocket” return with their six piece band and as usual complimentary cheese and biscuits, pork pie etc available on the bar – Please see attached poster.

    Saturday 24nd January 845pm – Gig Night

The very popular local band “Roadrunner” are on stage and again, I attach a poster with full details.

Thursday lunch also features the Jazz Crew and on Friday afternoon we have The Al Sansome Band performing, one of the highlights of the week.

    2) Club Coach Trip

The spring city coach trip will be to Ely on Wednesday 20th May 2026. Ely is a lovely city in Cambridgeshire. About two thirds the size of Stratford upon Avon; historical features include a magnificent cathedral and Oliver Cromwell’s house as it would have been when he lived there for ten years around 1630-1640.

    Itinerary

    • Club opens at 7am for tea, coffee and biscuits.
    • Boarding commences 8.05am, coach to depart 815am promptly.
    • Arrival in Ely around 10.00am.
    • Back at the coach at 5pm for a 5.15pm departure.
    • Arrive back at the Club 7pm – 7.15pm for a cold finger buffet.
    • Price £15 members / £20 guests

Please either let me know or Rebecca and her team who will be keeping the usual list of names behind the bar.

    3) 140th Anniversary Celebrations

As already advised, we are looking to hold a series of events to mark 140 years since the founding of the club.

The first event is fixed for Friday 13th February and will feature a Victorian Games Evening, with reduced prices on the bar drinks!  A poster should be out by the end of the week with full details, but please save the date.

    4) 2026 Subscription Renewals

Renewals are going well and I’d like to thank the 340 members who have paid for 2026.

It would be helpful if those who haven’t renewed could do so by the end of the month so that we can fully update our records.

    5) Books on Local History

As some of you may be aware, the club has purchased various books over the last five years on the history of Clarendon Park, Victoria Park, Stoneygate and Knighton for members to borrow from time to time. Featuring many photographs of the area in bygone times.

A lot of the books, which are now out of print, were written by the late Helen Boynton, a local author who lived around the Manor Road area. Unfortunately, the books were borrowed some months ago and have yet to be returned. I am sure this is an oversight, but I would be grateful if they could be returned in the near future – many thanks.

    Best wishes

    Sharon
