Club Update – Admin Issues

The above four jobs are “booked in”, but we also hope to make a start on new upholstery for the bench seats – we’re awaiting quotes.

During July, we will look to finish the ground floor gents’ floor, and during September / October, we intend to repaint the main room walls and make repairs to the stage area.

The only event booked during these three days is the Vinyl Night on the Tuesday.

Derek the Djook has, however, kindly agreed to hold the Vinyl Night two days later on Thursday, 23rd July. Derek will let his regulars know about the change in date, and we will send out a reminder email during July.

I am incredibly disappointed to report that earlier this month, we found evidence of drug paraphernalia on the ground floor in the gents’ toilets.

Over the years, the number of snooker / pool cues stored in the kitchen for convenience has gradually increased. We now have between 15 and 20 cues at any one time, and they are becoming a trip hazard as we have no real place to keep them except up against the walls.

I am concerned regarding the health and safety aspect and would therefore ask all cue owners to remove them by the end of this month.

I am happy, however, for the cues to be kept in the locked cloakroom and will ask Mike Owen to make a small box to be positioned just inside the door, on the right, to keep the cues upright and stop them sliding down. I hope that this is a reasonable alternative.

Whilst on the subject of the cloak room, over the last couple of years, we have accumulated quite a collection of clothing, including jackets, scarves, jumpers etc.

I would ask anybody who has left items in the cloakroom to collect them by the end of July; otherwise we will take them down to one of the charity shops where hopefully they will find a good home.

Just a quick reminder that whilst dogs are welcome in the club, they do need to be kept on a lead. Over the months we have had an increasing number of dogs wandering around the main room and also running along the benches – many thanks.

I had hoped not to have to refer to this matter again, but the smokers on the first-floor fire escape are still causing an issue. Would those involved please put their used butts in the bucket provided and not flick them onto the yard below or the adjoining neighbours’ flat roof. We have had to extinguish three potential fires over the last two years.

If the current antisocial behaviour continues, the club will have no choice but to ban the smoking on the fire escape landing, as, in theory, this is part of the premises. I don’t want to come across as heavy-handed, so I am just asking the members concerned to show a bit more consideration for other club members, the staff and our neighbours – thank you.
