Weekly Entertainment in the club
I am very pleased to advise that starting this week we are planning to have regular musical entertainment in the club as follows:
- The Jazz Crew – Thursday lunch times 1230pm-230pm
- The Al Sansome Blues Band – Friday afternoons 2pm – 4pm
Both these groups played regularly at The Donkey until the new management at the pub decided to change its business model and cease being a musical venue with effect from yesterday!
Al from the Blues Band and Stuart from the Jazz Crew asked the club’s officers (with the help of a couple of existing members) to see if we were interested in having them perform at the club. Of course, we were more than pleased to be approached, particularly as we are very quiet during these periods.
Because, however, we are a Private Member’s Club and as the bands both have a following of 40 / 50 people, mostly non-members, who would want admission to the club during performances, this was an issue that needed to be addressed – hence the delay in this announcement.
Nick and Chris, therefore, contacted Charles Littlewood, Deputy Chief Executive at The Association of Conservative Clubs in London for his views. Various options were discussed, such as Premises Licence and different levels of memberships, but both these options had downsides.
What we agreed was that during November, the first two weeks we would sign in the non-members as guests, in accordance with the rules and the second two weeks obtain a TENS (Temporary Event Notice) to allow attendance. This would allow us to gauge the success or otherwise of the gigs. Thereafter, if the events were well attended and successful, we would seek to ask the attendees to consider membership.
From our point of view, footfall and income at the club has dropped 20% since the end of May and this is a great opportunity to increase usage, membership, income and continue to become an integral part of the Clarendon Park / Knighton community. If we can make this work, it will be great news for our club. Hopefully, our current members will support these new events. I will keep you advised of progress.
Please see attached posters of the two events, plus details of the gig this Saturday Night with the Elvis Comedy Show with Andy McGowan performing live with a mixture of hit songs and comedy.
Best wishes
Sharon
